The official announcement came the same day they announced Star Wars Land at the D23 Expo. Because of the hype built up around Star Wars Land is appears that Toy Story Land might have missed out on some much deserved attention much like a toy that has been forgotten or replaced by the latest and greatest. (I'm looking at you Buzz) Nonetheless you can help Andy and his friends by reading all there is to know about this exciting addition here:
Slated to be constructed in the currently named Disney's Hollywood Studios (DHS) is an 11 acre (much needed) addition to the park. DHS has been slowing removing attractions such as the Backlot Tour, The Magic of Disney Animation, etc. and filing requests for permits over the past few months. (Namely I'm referring to the permit to build an amphitheater near the Tower of Terror, but I think that is an unrelated project yet to be announced.) What we do know is that one of the most popular attractions at DHS is Toy Story Midway Mania located in Pixar Studios. When visiting be sure to request a FastPass+ for this attraction as soon as you can. This attraction is one of the most popular rides in Walt Disney World. This attraction is so popular in fact that part of the expansion includes a third track being added to this attraction to reduce wait times and allow more guests to experience the attraction.
Second on this list is a new roller coaster! However, thrill junkies shouldn't get their hopes up. This will be a family friendly roller coaster similar to the experience you can expect on the new Seven Dwarf's Mine Train. The roller coaster will be themed around Slink Dog. Guest will board Slink and the attraction will interact with you as you ride along by triggering things to happen along side the track. From the rendering it looks like Slink will take up a lot of real estate in the new land so they must expect this to be a large draw. Expect to get in line for your FastPass+ selection!
Last but certainly not least is the 3rd attraction planned for the opening of Toy Story Land. Alien Spin takes its cues from an attraction already built in Cars Land called Matter's Junkyard Jamboree. Guests board one of serveral ride vehicles in parties of 2. Each car moves forward on a large disc as it handed off to the next section rotating the opposite way, so on, and so on until the ride stops. As you are towed around the track your bench swings from one side to the other. Similar to the sensation you get from riding a tilt-a-whirl but much more family friendly for those who get sick on those kind of rides. Personally I find Matter's Junkyard Jamboree to be very fun, imaginative and very well themed! I hope the theme can converted over to Toy Story well enough that the attraction doesn't feel forced into the park. For those of us hoping that Cars Land will come to Florida... Is a duplicated attraction a sign that it's not in the cards? I hope I'm wrong...
