Disney Springs has undergone some major changes over the past few years. As the landscape changes so must existing attractions in order to keep up with the theming of their surroundings. "Characters in Flight" has just announced that it will be changing its name to better reflect Disney Springs story. Aérophile is the company that owns and operates the formerly known as "Charters in Flight" attraction. Hence the new name. Simple, straight forward, classic. I think these are all words that could describe this change. When you look at the name of other destinations in Disney Springs the name might fit in better. Jock Lindsey's Hangar Bar is an example of Owner, purpose... and I really feel that's what they were going for here. Love it or hate it?
It's been report that updates are coming to a beloved attraction at the Walt Disney World Resort. Pirates of the Caribbean will be updating a couple scenes throughout the attraction. Among them includes the return of the talking scull! Repurposed as an on ride photo the talking skull welcomes you to the attraction just before you plung into the epic battle. Amid much controversy a cult favorite and meme worthy scene will also be getting a modernized update. This update brings the roll of women to the forefront. In a "We Can Do It" initiative women will now be in charge of the auction. It apears the redhead will now play the roll of the auctioneer by selling off the goods looted or donated from the town. This update is schedule to take place in 2018 at both Disneyland and the Walt Disney World Resorts. Finally, Captain Barbossa will join the skeleton crew in an update exclusive to Disneyland Paris when the attraction reopens July 24th.
Live recording of the Rivers of Light nighttime show at Disney's Animal Kingdom. Skip ahead to 7:40 The Main Street Elecrical Parade returned to The Magic Kingdom in 2010 for a "limited engagement" as part of the Summer Nightastic promotion. The updated show included new LED lighting, new audio technology and 3 new floats (Tinkerbell's, Snow White's, and Pinocchio's). Due to the extreme popularity of the updated parade the "summer-long" return of this performance was extended far beyond its original expectation. Sadly every parade runs its course and this one has run the same course over, and over, and over again.
Disneyland is currently winding down on its Diamond Celebration and the current nighttime parade (Paint the Night) will end its nightly performances on September 5th, 2016. It's rumored that Paint the Night will continue performances at Disneyland for special events, so this might indicate that we will not expect to see Paint the Night shift over to The Magic Kingdom unless they would be willing to reproduce the floats in Florida. There is no official word on what, if anything, will be replacing the evening parade in the Magic Kingdom but we will update this post as more information becomes available. In a controversial announcement at San Diego Comic-con Disney released plans to retheme the 12 year old DCA attraction Tower of Terror to a Marvel ride based off of Guardians of the Galaxy. This fresh coat of paint will be called "Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: BREAKOUT!" The current attraction is set to close in January 2017 so that it can be transformed from a hotel into the Collector's fortress. The Guardians will be on display as captors and it will be our mission to assist Rocket Racoon to free the rest of the crew. You can expect the ride system to remain pretty much the same. However, the fall will now be set to iconic music from the movie soundtrack and will rock, rise and fall to the beat of the music! The new (cough.. rethemed) attraction is expected to open in the summer of 2017. NOTE: The Florida version at Disney's Hollywood Studios is not changing. This announcement is only for Disney's California Adventure location. If you are a fan of The Muppets you have a new reason to get excited about your next Walt Disney World Vacation! A new LIVE stage show is being planned in Liberty Square. As Sam the Eagle would put it, "A Salute to All the Nations of the World, but Mostly America". Joining Sam the Eagle will be all of your favorite character including Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo and James Jefferson (the Town Crier of Liberty Square). This all new show will debut in the fall of 2016! More Muppet news coming out of the parks recently is the announcement of Pizza Rizzo at Disney's Hollywood Studios! Pizza Rizzo will be opening in the former Pizza Planet location in and near the "Muppets Courtyard" next to Muppet Vision 3D. The menu is described as casual Italian-American and will feature indoor and outdoor seating options with nods to Rizzo's family and friends who have visited the restaurant over the years. No word yet if Pizza Planet will be relocated inside the new Toy Story Land but we can assume they wouldn't have 2 pizza places in the same park... Right? June 17th, 2016 is going to be a historic day for the Walt Disney World Resort! Guests will be able to experience many new attractions and it all kicks off with a brand new stage show in front of Cinderella's Castle called Mickey's Royal Friendship Faire! Mickey's Royal Friendship Faire replaces the long running stage show Dream Along with Mickey. This brand new show will invite new characters to the main stage including Tiana, Neveen, Rapunzel, Flynn and some friends from the Snuggly Duckling. Olaf, Anna and Elsa even join in on the fun! Check your attractions guide for performance times and plan accordingly. Also on June 17th the highly controversial attraction Frozen Ever After opens in EPCOT's Norway Pavilion. This attraction replaces the beloved boat ride Maelstrom. Many Disney fans are left scratching their heads wondering why Disney is including an imaginary land based on an actual country in EPCOT's World Showcase? Don't get me wrong, I love the inclusion of Disney characters in the lands they are inspired from... Such as Aladdin in Morocco, Belle in France, but this one even has me wondering how Disney is going to pull it off and make it feel natural instead of forced into the space. Taking flight June 17th is the brand new hang gliding experience Soarin' Around the World! The newly refurbished attraction features high definition digital screens, a third theater, carpeted entrance ways.... Oh yeah, and brand new (knock the flip flops off of the guy above you) video featuring breathtaking man made and natural landmarks. I just rode Fly Over America at Minnesota's Mall of America. The high definition screens really make a difference. The old projection screens would leave me motion sick sometimes, but with the upgraded viewing experience I didn't feel motion sick once! I can only assume that the Florida version of this attraction will have a similar look and feel. Over at Disney's Hollywood Studios a new fireworks experience will debut on June 17th! Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular will hyper jump your midichlorians as this new show surrounds you! This brand new combination of State-of-the-art projection effects, dynamic lighting, lasers and pyrotechnics will light up the skies above Disney's Hollywood Studios like never before! Check your My Disney Experience app or the parks guide for show times and best viewing locations. Last but not least it is worth mentioning that over Memorial Day weekend the long awaited 3rd track was opened at Toy Story Midway Mania! This will hopefully reduce the stand buy time and allow more FastPass+ reservations. Construction continues at Hollywood Studios on Toys Story Land and Star Wars Land with and estimated opening date stretching out to 2018. Don't let the construction stop you from going to Hollywood Studios though... there's still plenty to see and do!

The discontinuation of this also comes with the announcement that Disney will be closing the company responsible for the development of its video games, Avalanche. This comes at a loss of 300 jobs... There will still be a release of a couple characters from Alice Through The Looking Glass, and a play set themed to Finding Dory to be released later next month. However, for those super fans looking forward to further expansion as new Star Wars movies come out, or new and exciting play sets based on upcoming movies we are sadly at a loss. Disney Infinity SVP John Blackburn is quoted below: "By now you may have heard the news that we have made the difficult decision to discontinue production of Disney Infinity. From the beginning, Disney Infinity was built for you--our fans--and I wanted to take a moment to thank you not just for your support over the years, but for creating a community that made Disney Infinity more than just a game. Disney Parks has finally announced the grand opening of Soarin' Around the World at Disney's EPCOT theme park. This attraction is located on the lower level in the Land pavilion of Future World. In addition to upgrading the existing screens to HD a third theater was added to assist with the long wait times this attraction can attain. Get ready to take off on June 17th, 2016! FasPass+ selections open up TODAY! In the meantime here is a preview: |
